Transferring Funds

Did you know you can get your funds fastest by transferring them at the beginning of the week?

Summary

To optimize transfer times:

  • Try to transfer funds towards the beginning of the week (Monday - Wednesday).
  • Avoid transferring money on weekends and holidays. The ACH banking network doesn't operate during these times.
  • Check with your bank to see how quickly they recognize incoming ACH transfers.

How Transfers Work

When you initiate a transfer from your ProPay Account to your checking account, ProPay utilizes the Automated Clearing House (ACH) Network to facilitate your request. Generally, a funds transfer to your checking account will be completed in 2-4 business days (depending on the bank you are sending the funds to). However, if you transfer funds over a weekend or holiday your transfer may exceed this typical time frame.

Here's how a transfer works:

  1. User enters a transfer in their ProPay Account.
  2. ProPay sends an ACH transfer request file.
  3. User's bank recognizes transferred funds.
Once ProPay sends the ACH request (see step 2) it generally takes the user's bank 1-2 business days to recognize the funds. The time this takes is entirely up to the user's bank and is not controlled by ProPay.

Optimizing Transfers

You can optimize how fast a transfer takes by following the steps below:

  1. The optimal time for you to transfer funds is at the beginning of the week. This ensures that your transfer will not be delayed by the weekend.

  2. Virtually all banks and the ACH Network do not operate over the weekend or on federal holidays. Therefore if you transfer funds on a Friday or on a federal holiday, your transfer will automatically be delayed.

  3. Once ProPay sends your funds out via the ACH Network you are dependent on your bank to recognize the incoming funds. Some banks recognize funds quicker than other banks. Check with your bank's ACH department to see how fast it takes for the recognition of incoming ACH transfers. Typically banks will recognize the funds in 1-2 business days.
