1. Why should I pay with ProPay?

When you use your credit card to buy from a seller using ProPay you know you're protected. That means that you have the same built-in protections that you do with any other credit-card transaction. Not all payment services afford the same protections that ProPay does.

2. Do I need an account to pay someone who uses ProPay?

No. All you need is a MasterCard® or Visa® branded credit or debit card, or a Discover® or American Express® branded card for merchants with higher level ProPay Accounts, to pay someone using ProPay.

3. Who pays the transaction fees?

The seller (the merchant) pays all transaction fees. The buyer pays no transaction fees.

4. When should I dispute a charge?

You should only dispute a charge if:

  • You never received the item you purchased, or
  • The item you purchased was damaged when it arrived, or
  • The item originally listed by the seller was different from the item you received.

ProPay suggests that, even if you experience one of the problems listed above, you contact the seller before initiating an immediate chargeback. The seller is charged $15.00 for each chargeback and will, consequently, be motivated to work out a settlement with you. Please note that when you dispute a charge, it is not accepted automatically. If your reasons for a chargeback do not meet the standards listed above, chances are that your dispute will not be successful. Your options for recourse are designed to protect you from intentional fraud on the part of the seller.

If you have trouble with a merchant who uses ProPay, you are welcome to contact ProPay Customer Service where we will be happy to provide you with additional contact information so that you can contact the merchant directly.

5. How do I dispute a charge that was processed with ProPay?

You can use the established dispute procedures that are already available with your card service, as long as you are paying with a credit card. Generally this involves contacting the card-issuing bank.
